Just Listen

Below is a short blog from one of our staff here in Salem, letting you in on his heart for our outreaches. This quarter he came on staff with us and has been a huge help with running Street Surges.

“I led two street surges last night. One with the DTS and one with Calvary Chapel Salem. I have to admit I wasn’t the most excited about being there at first. As I began briefing my first group which, was the DTS, I stopped and began praying for the students and also for myself that God would give me a peace of mind. Immediately I felt my attitude toward the whole thing change. I was stoked about being there and excited about the hour and a half gap in between groups knowing that I would be able to spend time with God. When Calvary Chapel Salem arrived I briefed them, sent them out and became overjoyed of all the Lord was doing through Mission Adventures, through my life, and in the city of Salem as a whole.
I found myself getting so pumped up that I wanted to go talk to people. With the group scattered about holding their free prayer signs I walked up to a homeless man, named Matt, that was sitting underneath an awning trying to stay dry from the rain. We began talking about the weather and ended up getting into where he was at in life. He went on … and on … and on … I listened … and listened … and listened.
At the end of the conversation I was able to tell him how much the Lord cared about him and how valuable he was in the Lord’s sight and how much He cared about him. “Well,” said Matt, “I thank Jesus Christ for sending you to me to come sit here and listen to me.” I want to challenge you all to do something. Find someone to engage into a conversation with and while your sitting there … Just Listen.”
